Plans submitted for new shops in Alconbury Weald’s ‘The Glade’

Plans for a row of up to five new retail units opposite the Co‑op at The Glade in Alconbury Weald have moved ahead, following planning approval from Huntingdonshire District Council.

The single‑storey building will be able to accommodate a variety of businesses, such as a café or deli, pharmacy, hairdresser or barber, estate agent, or other small shops. The layout has been designed so that units can be combined if larger spaces are needed by future tenants.

Progress is also being made on the temporary health centre proposed for the space above the Co‑op, with permission already granted earlier this year to convert the offices into a medical facility. Discussions continue regarding a new nursery, which will complete the final phase of development at The Glade.

Ground preparation work for the new shops is now underway, and the units are expected to be ready for internal fit‑out by next spring. Under the planning consent, the shops may operate between 8am and 10pm Monday to Saturday, and from 10am to 6pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays, though each business will set its own opening hours.
